Many folks set New Year's Resolutions to get healthier, eat better, exercise more, lose weight, and so on. Unfortunately, many of those goals follow by the wayside within a few weeks. Here are a couple of easy ways to achieve your goals this time!
1. Get specific. Saying that you want to get in shape or lose weight isn't detailed enough, and doesn't give you an end goal or a timeline to achieve it. Think about exactly what you want to achieve. Do you want to work out 3 times a week? Schedule it in your calendar, and keep the appointments! Do you want to lose weight? Choose a realistic goal and a timeline to meet that goal, and think about the steps you'll need to take or changes you'll need to make to get there. Do you want be healthier? Get specific in what you want to achieve: Get stronger? Train for a sport or recreational activity? Improve a chronic health condition? Then you can start planning how you're going to meet that specific goal.
2. Break it down into Baby Steps. This is so important! Like any big goal or life change, it really helps to break it down into smaller pieces so it's not so overwhelming. Start brainstorming and begin to write down, step by step, how you'll achieve your goals. Don't sweat it if you miss a deadline; just having the plan written down, being able to cross things off as you go, and being able to pat yourself on the back as you achieve each Baby Step will help keep you motivated. You are progressing in the right direction. No need to make all your changes at once! Changing one thing at a time will help you make lifetime, sustainable changes.
